The Mohala Farms Internship Program offers an in-depth and immersive farming opportunity for aspiring organic farmers. Our farm interns gain practical tools and skills related to organic farming methods such as planning and planting cover crops, compost management, mulching, EM (compost tea spray), vermicast/vermacomposting, and much more.
Farm interns work closely with the Farm Management Team in order to help manage approximately 2-5 work-exchange farm volunteers or WWOOFers. In addition to processing and managing produce orders from multiple vendors in town (Honolulu), farm interns participate in local Farmer’s Market sales on a weekly basis.
Interested farm intern applicants should be passionate about the ‘aina (the land) and interested in organic farming. Preference will be granted to applicants with at least one full season of farming experience, or a background in gardening or soil science.
Farm interns are expected to work 40 hours a week, five days a week. Internships are year-long commitments (beginning in the early fall/late summer), but longer or slightly shorter term timelines can be discussed on a case-by-case basis. There are two farm internship opportunities offered each year, with priority given to those who apply early.
Each intern receives a monthly stipend of $500, a comfortable, on-site off-the-grid cabin (including a shared solar-powered hot shower), and access to farm fresh produce.
Right now our 2023-2024 internship program is full. Applications for the 2024-2025 internship season will be accepted soon. Interested candidates should inquire about the position at least 4-5 months in advance, if possible.
